About Me
I’m glad you’ve found your way here! My name is Sara Kohtala, and I’m a registered psychotherapist based in Hamilton. For over five years, I’ve been dedicated to helping people navigate life’s challenges in a space that is honest, caring, and nonjudgmental.
I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Guelph in 2017 and spent three years in northern Ontario conducting psychological assessments and providing behaviour therapy for people with disabilities. It was during this time that I discovered my passion for building meaningful therapeutic relationships and supporting clients through difficult transitions.
In 2021, I completed a Master’s in Counselling Psychology at Western University in London, Ontario.
I have worked with adults and couples on a wide range of concerns. My primary areas of focus include anxiety, OCD, and relationship issues.
I also support clients struggling with self-esteem, body image, and work-related stress. My approach integrates evidence-based modalities such as Internal Family Systems, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
As a published author in the field of domestic violence, I am equipped to support individuals who have experienced—or are currently experiencing—abuse in their relationships.
I have a strong passion for couples’ work. Drawing on Emotion-Focused Therapy, one of the most effective approaches for relationship healing, I help couples navigate challenges such as communication breakdowns, intimacy concerns, infidelity, and parenting stress.
Outside of my practice, I enjoy spending time with my three cats, working on art projects, and experimenting with new recipes.
I look forward to the privilege of walking alongside you in your healing journey
